Firefighters responded to a car fire at 9:31 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at 802 Apple St. A black 2010 Chevy Camaro’s engine compartment was on fire. They knocked down the flames and opened the hood with pry tools and a rotary saw. After the fire was extinguished, the power was disconnected from the battery. ...

Firefighters responded to a car fire at 9:31 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at 802 Apple St. A black 2010 Chevy Camaro’s engine compartment was on fire. They knocked down the flames and opened the hood with pry tools and a rotary saw. After the fire was extinguished, the power was disconnected from the battery. Vehicle owner Shondrika Hughes asked the fire be investigated since the vehicle hadn’t been driven all day. The vehicle was towed to Extreme Recovery impound lot to await contact from the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office.

Firefighters responded at 1:22 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, to a vehicle and pedestrian accident at 221 N. Main St. After a search, the pedestrian was located in the parking lot at 221-A N. Main St. Fire personnel checked for injuries and preformed first aid until Butler County EMS arrived. Firefighters helped with packaging and loading the pedestrian into the ambulance.

Firefighters responded at 9:14 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, to Hillcest Apartments, 445 N. Second St., to an unintentional smoke detector activation. While investigating, firefighters learned someone had burned food on a stove setting off the smoke detector. Five personnel used positive pressure ventilation fans to ventilate the apartment and hallway. Housing maintenance arrived to reset the alarm.

Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded at 11:03 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, to Briggs & Stratton, 731 Highway 142, to a fire alarm. While en route dispatch notified the crews it was a malfunctioning alarm. Upon arrival, the crew made contact with maintenance and verified the false alarm due to a faulty photo eye detector in the air duct.

Firefighters responded at 5:48 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, to a motor vehicle accident with no injuries with two vehicles blocking the roadway at Vine and Fifth streets. No extrication was required and no one was transported to the hospital.

Firefighters responded at 8:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, to a single motor vehicle accident with no injuries at 2805 N. 14th St. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, bringing the line down. The vehicle was in the ditch. The pole was not down but was close to snapping. Municipal Utilities responded to take care of the pole and electrical lines. Woolard’s Two Brothers Towing removed the vehicle.

Firefighters responded at 4:42 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, a malicious false call at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health, 2620 N. Westwood Blvd. Security met the firefighters stating a patient had pulled a pull station and the fire crew verified the station actually was destroyed. The station was out of service until it is replaced.

Firefighters responded at 9:11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, to an unintentional alarm system activation at The Cedargate, 2350 Kanell Blvd. Firefighters met with an employee who stated the alarm was supposed to be out of service while the sprinkler system was being repaired. The alarm company was contacted.
