Campbell native, Matt Gunter, has assumed the role of Financial Coordinator at the Dunklin County Caring Council.
Gunter stated he was excited for the opportunity and shared on his enjoyment working with numbers and helping the community.
“I always liked math,” Gunter informed. “That was my favorite subject. I like numbers.”
Gunter continued, “When I graduated high school I was very indecisive on my future. I did not know what I wanted to do.”
“My sophomore year in college I finally declared my major, which was business administration,” added Gunter.
Gunter stated he heard about the job through a friend.
“At the time I was helping my dad manage his rental properties,” said Gunter.
His new position at DCCC requires a lot of invoicing and budget work, but also allows for assisting in other areas of the organization.
“I like that I’m not just tied down to one specific role,” stated Gunter. “I help at the front desk. I meet new people. I even run around town and make deliveries. I enjoy helping the community.”
Gunter had high praise for the Caring Council and its purpose.
“I absolutely believe in what we do,” he said. “We do everything from parenting classes to cancer treatment assistance.”
“Actually, anything to uplift the community by helping families,” Gunter added.
When asked about challenges, he smiled, and said, “I work with an office full of women, and that can be a challenge.”
“They’re actually great,” provided Gunter. “I love working with all of them.”
Gunter shared, “We have a wonderful team here. It starts with Cheryl Bruce and continues through the rest of the staff.”
“It’s a great team,” he added. “Everyone helps each other.”
Gunter stated he was proud of the many programs the Caring Council offers.
“One of my favorite programs is Skillup, where we help people get schooling for certain jobs like lineman and CDL training,” he said.
Gunter also enjoys living in Southeast Missouri.
“Growing up in a small town I always thought I wanted to leave,” he stated. “Then I left and went to college and realized I really wanted to get back here.”
Gunter continued, “I love the atmosphere of a small town. My family is here as well.”
Gunter concluded he would like to see more public education on what the Caring Council offered.
“I wish there was more awareness of what we actually provide,” he said. “It would be nice if everyone had an understanding of what we do here.”
Gunter said he is excited to continue with Caring Council.
“It’s been a great choice for me,” he shared. “I’ve got a family full of politicians, so I’ve grown up watching people help their community.”
Gunter stated, “For me it’s a natural fit.”
