Poplar Bluff firefighters about to change shifts at 5:59 a.m. New Year’s Day responded to a fire involving two structures and a vehicle in the area of Henry and Marshall streets.
According to Lt. Jonathan D. Miller’s report, upon arrival fire crews located the original building and vehicle at 818 Nickey St. were fully involved with flames showing, and another structure the siding was beginning to melt on another house at 819 W. Henry St..
The crew used 1,000 gallons of water to put out the fire at 818 Nickey St. The owner is Jeff Hale and the occupant was Bernita Heifner.
Firefighters used 50 gallons of water to put out the fire in the passenger vehicle, a 2017 Chrysler Grand Caravan, belonging to Duane Bettag.
Firefighters used 50 gallons of water to extinguish the fire at the 819 W. Henry St. house, owned by James Livingston.
Captain Chad A. Bell was the incident commander.
The original seven firefighters were relieved by the new crew, and firefighter Jeremy Downing and Battalion Chief Jeff Hale were called back to man a station while the incident was in progress. Fire Chief Mike Moffitt also was at the scene
Butler County EMS, Municipal Utilities, Poplar Bluff Police and Spire Gas also were at the scene.
