To help get local communities in the holiday spirit every year, area businesses, churches and individuals alike take the opportunity to set up Christmas light displays at Redman Creek Campground in Wappapello.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Wappapello Lake Area Association (WLAA), with the help of volunteers, team up to help transform the campgrounds into a magical winter wonderland auto tour of music and lights.
It is free to set up, said one volunteer.
During these events, WLAA accepts donations to help fund future projects and events.
“A lot of people don’t know that is where the funds for the fireworks come from every year,” said WLAA treasurer Deana Teague.
This year, according to one volunteer, there are around 80 sites filled, but there is still room for more.
For more information about a site or volunteer information, call the project management office at 573-222-8562. Monetary donations can be sent to WLAA, P.O. Box 66, Wappapello, MO 63966.
The auto tour will be open from 5-9 p.m. weekends only from Nov. 25-Dec. 11 and nightly from Dec. 16-25 at Redman Creek East Campground. Santa is scheduled to fly into the campground for a visit on Dec. 17 and 21.
