JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – One day after Missourians elected 111 Republicans to the Missouri House of Representatives, State Rep. Jamie Burger of Benton, Missouri, was selected by his colleagues to serve as House assistant majority floor leader for the 102nd General Assembly.

As assistant majority floor leader, Burger will work in coordination with the majority floor leader to set the legislative calendar and determine which legislation makes it to the floor for debate and when. The assistant majority floor leader also helps control the flow of business on the House floor and is considered the fourth highest position in the hierarchy of the Missouri House of Representatives.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to have the support and the trust of my colleagues to serve in this position that will play such a key role in advancing the legislative priorities of our caucus and our constituents,” said Burger, R-Benton. “I am looking forward to working with the members of the House of Representatives to move their legislation forward as part of the House Leadership Team.”

Burger joins the rest of the leadership team that was selected by the House Republican Caucus on Wednesday. Other leadership members include state Rep. Jon Patterson who was selected to serve as Majority Floor Leader and Rep. Mike Henderson who will take on the role of House Speaker Pro Tem. State Rep. Hardy Billington was elected to the position of House Majority Whip. State Rep. Chris Dinkins will serve as caucus chair. The caucus had previously selected state Rep. Dean Plocher to serve as the next Speaker of the House.

Burger was first elected to office in 2020. He represents the 148th House District that currently includes Scott and Mississippi counties but because of redistricting will be made up of Scott County beginning next year. During his time in office Burger has championed the "Save Women’s Sports" bill and the "Donate Life Day" bill. He sponsored an amendment to HB 2149 which allowed members of the Department of Defense's Initiative Readiness Training exemptions from Missouri licensing requirements.

Burger will officially assume his duties as assistant majority floor leader when the 102nd General Assembly convenes for the 2023 legislative session on Jan. 4, 2023.
