More improvements are planned, announced Rodgers Theatre board members during their annual fundrasier banquet Thursday.

Restore the Rodgers was held at the Black River Coliseum with about 200 guests in attendance.

Wally Duncan, board president, praised the Downtown Poplar Bluff resurgence and renovations.

“We’re proud to be a part of that,” he said.

Work is continuing, although slowly, on the marquee, said Duncan, who admitted the project has been a lesson in patience, but will be finished.

“Probably the next thing we’ll work on is the exterior display boxes,” Duncan said. “We’re really going to try and get that back into shape.”

Other plans include bringing back Opry at the Rodgers on a more regular basis, he said.

The first event will be Dec. 3, organized by board member Brent Davis. It will include Alix Riffle and the Stiff Riffs.

“We want to focus more on local entertainment and bringing those types of groups to the Rodgers,” Duncan said.

Plans have been made to host a pair of Christmas movies Nov. 25, following Thanksgiving. “Miracle on 34th Street” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be shown.

Duncan also announced board member Paul McWilliams is stepping down from the Rodgers after 18 years of volunteering his time.

He thanked McWilliams for his service and dedication to the historic theatre.

McWilliams asked for the public’s continued support in the preservation and improvement of the Rodgers.
