VAN BUREN — The Landing is coming back, and is set to be better than ever.

The Bedell family decided to rebuild their landmark resort after a fire destroyed the main hotel, gift shop and restaurant last September. The Landing’s Current River floating office and its 18-room hotel, which was separate from the original lodge, operated over the summer while the new main building progressed.

“It’s been just over a year and we’re very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in a year,” said Jeremy Bedell, son of owners Tom and Della.

The new building will add 13 rooms to the resort’s capacity. It features two massive, scenic breezeways, new recreation offices and a bigger store. The family is brainstorming new items to carry in the improved mercantile space.

“We are excited for what we have here, and ideas for things to add during the off season,” Bedell noted.

The new foundation set back from original building’s footprint. This extra distance from the river gives The Landing more security in case of another 100-year flood like the one that swept through Carter County in 2017.

Opening day is set to arrive in time for the tourist season of 2023. The Bedells are excited to reveal The Landing’s second life to Van Buren as well as visitors who trek from around the country to see the Ozarks.

“It’s going to be a really beautiful property to host a lot of people, and serve people a lot better,” said Bedell.
