Daisy Elreva “Oakes” Shivley, 94, of Rockford, Illinois, formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed away Sept. 27, 2022, in Illinois.
Daisy was born on July 22, 1928, to Pleasant (Pleas) Jefferson Oakes and Freedonia Oakes in Neelyville, Missouri. She married Aimon Lee Shivley Feb. 2, 1949, in Arkansas. He preceded her in death May 3, 1983.
Daisy graduated from Neelyville High School in 1949 and worked for Bussman Fuse factory in St. Louis for 20 years. She was a member of The Eastern Star. Some of Daisy’s favorite things to do was going to Cracker Barrel then to Bingo. She enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinal games. In honor of Daisy, you may wear a Cardinal shirt to her funeral. She also looked forward to Christmas because she knew Richard was going to send her something special.
Daisy and her husband raised 15-20 other kids in their earlier years.
Daisy is survived by brother, Fred (Joyce) Oakes of Rockford, Illinois; the four grandchildren she helped raise: Tonya Sinks of Parma, Kim Sinks of Campbell, James Sinks of Poplar Bluff, Amanda Ruiz of Jonesboro; nephews she helped raise: Richard (Peggy) Oakes of Poplar Bluff, Terry (Kathy) Gibbs of Van Buren; nieces, Marie Garner of Rolla, Freda (Steve) Bandibas of Illinois, and niece who was also her caretaker, Vicky Oakes.
Daisy was preceded in death by her husband, Aimon Lee Shivley; son, Larry Dale Sinks; grandson, Larry Dale Sinks Jr.; siblings: Irene, Florence, Goldie, Viola, Mary, Roy, Lillie, Mildred, Lons; and a nephew, Larry James Oakes.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.- noon Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel at noon. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
