A great time of laughter and conversation was shared at the Sept. 14, Cane Creek Community Club meeting held at Wilma Rains’ house, according to club members.

The meeting was chaired by Rains, vice-president, and was opened with a “show and tell” by Nancy Wujcik, with some items and experiences from deceased club member, Marie Boxx’s, estate sale.

Catherine Bryant gave a devotional pinned by a pastor about the blessings of using a sewer system.

‘It’s amazing how God arranges our bodies to use what we need and to release the rest,” Wujcik shared in the secretary’s report. “Comparing this to our spiritual and emotional life, we can forgive and flush away hurt feelings, worries, anxieties.”

The three members present answered the roll call on how they relaxed.

Rains gave an impromptu program about memories of growing up in her family in the Cane Creek area. She related the story of how she got the nickname, “Nip”, weighing in at 4 lbs. at birth.

She also told the story about her 5-year-old brother’s death from pneumonia. Because this happened at Christmas time, her family missed several future Christmases, remembering that sad time.

She related how many of her family members had worked at serving food either in a restaurant or in a grocery store as well as her mother cooking at the Sale Barn cafeteria. Memories were shared about her husband, J.D. Rains, who was an electrician, who enjoyed eating in the Mules cafeteria. After the presentation, Wilma was urged to record her memories or retell the stories over and over again so that her family would never forget them.

A short business meeting was held with the July and August minutes read. Although Glenda Philips, Wujcik and Rains were in attendance on Aug. 10, the club did not hold a formal meeting.

The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Rains’ house. The devotional was assigned to Glenda Philips, the roll call choice to Janet Gilmore, and the program to Sharon Osher. Visitors are always welcome to join.
