A Fairdealing man was taken into custody Sept. 9 on suspicion of brandishing a weapon, felony first degree charges of making terrorist threats and trespassing.

Charges, which are pending review by the prosecutor, stem from an incident which occurred earlier that day at a Dollar General Store, when the man became enraged over not getting his sales receipt.

According to reports, Dejuan Brady (who had earlier been trespassed from the store), came back onto the store property. He waited in his car, but sent someone in to buy cat food.

The purchase was made using self-check; however, the individual making the purchase failed to pick up the receipt. Moments later Brady entered the store, cursing and yelling and demanding the receipt.

A worker at the store advised Brady that he would have to go outside, but, she reportedly told him she would search for the receipt. However, it was not to be found, and self-check is not set up to do reprints.

The store worker again advised Brady that he would have to leave, and said if he didn’t go, she would call the police. Brady walked out, and according to reports, was witnessed pulling a weapon out of his pants, waiving it and yelling.

At that time someone outside the store texted his mother, a customer still inside the store, and warned her that a man was outside, highly agitated, waiving a weapon.

The store manager was called, and advised that the store immediately be locked down to protect the customers and staff, a total of about 10 people.

Reports stated there were also people in the parking lot in front of the store.

According to statements taken at the scene, Brady had been witnessed bringing out his gun and waiving it, both before and after he had gone into the store.

Brady was later arrested at his home. The weapon, a Taurus 9 mm with an extended 30-round magazine was recovered. According to reports, the gun was found to be loaded with one round in the chamber. It was seized as evidence.

Surveillance tape showed that the receipt for the cat food was inadvertently picked up by the next customer.
