Joseph E. Tyra, 85, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022. Joe was born Nov. 6, 1936 in Naylor, Missouri to the late William and Elsie (nee Hawthorne) Tyra. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Mae Tyra and Norma Jean Lewis along with his first wife, Louise (nee Aaron) whom he married Feb. 16, 1963 and passed on Feb. 15, 1967. Joseph later married Betty Jean (nee Gray) whom passed on July 17, 2013...

Joseph E. Tyra, 85, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri departed this life on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022.

Joe was born Nov. 6, 1936 in Naylor, Missouri to the late William and Elsie (nee Hawthorne) Tyra. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Mae Tyra and Norma Jean Lewis along with his first wife, Louise (nee Aaron) whom he married Feb. 16, 1963 and passed on Feb. 15, 1967. Joseph later married Betty Jean (nee Gray) whom passed on July 17, 2013.

Joe leaves behind his sisters, Mary Ann Ball and Doris (Randy) Scott, and his brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Tyra and John (Karen) Tyra. He was a loving uncle to his six nieces and six nephews and great uncle to his 26 nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by many friends and relatives.

Joe graduated from Naylor High School in Naylor and later joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served from November of 1958 to October of 1962. Joe was a man with a strong faith. He often helped his neighbors, friends and fellow church members by taking them to church, appointments and to the hospital to visit their loved ones. He also enjoyed his fellowship after church where they would meet for coffee and desserts. He had a love for gospel music and could sing along to any hymn. He was devoted and supportive to his family. He was a good brother. Joe met everyone with encouragement and kindness.

A visitation was Friday, Sept. 16, 2022 at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63125. A funeral service followed at noon followed by a committal service at Mount Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1515 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis.
