This trail is considered moderately challenging due to its elevation of almost 600 feet. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash to respect other hikers and the local wildlife. Camping is permitted only at two designated sites located along the trail. The low crowds make this trail ideal for a quiet, meditative hike.

The best time of the year to enjoy the Johnson Tract is March through October, but hikers must remember bug repellant if hiking in midsummer. This trail is fairly deep in the forest and it’s a happy home to many ticks and mosquitoes. Visitors should always remember to pack a backpack with necessary emergency items when hiking and if going alone, tell someone where you’ll be.
