Officers responded to a report of children fighting in the 600 block of Kinzer Street at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. The children were separated prior to officers’ arrival, and the matter was referred to the juvenile office.

Charles Harris reported at 8:52 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. the key to his vehicle was taken by an unknown female in the 600 block of North Main Street. Harris said the female was a passenger in his vehicle, and the two argued before he told her to get out of his car. As he drove away his car stalled, and he realized she had taken the key fob. At 4:40 a.m., Harris told officers he had recovered the missing key fob.

Cody Vance, 31, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested at 8:48 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. in the 2200 block of Trousdale Street on suspicion of second degree domestic assault and second degree property damage. He was booked at the Butler County jail.

Officers responded at 11:43 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, to Hillcrest Apartments at 445 North Main St. for a report of a drug overdose. EMS administered Narcan and the patient recovered but refused further medical treatment.

A vehicle was impounded At 3:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, and towed during a traffic stop at the intersection of Vine and Sixth streets. The registration was expired and the vehicle was not insured. The driver was released at the scene and will receive traffic citations by mail.

Officers were dispatched at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, to the parking lot at Smokin’ Aces bar and grill for a report of a fight on the parking lot. An adult female confirmed she and a boyfriend were involved in a fight, but she said he left prior to officers’ arrival and she refused to provide any further information.

Officers responded at 6:02 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, to Southeast Missouri Regional Center at 2511 Sunset Terrace for a report of a person with homicidal and/or suicidal ideas. The patient was transported to the hospital by EMS for evaluation.

A vehicle was impounded and towed at 7:08 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, from the scene of a motor vehicle collision after it was determined the vehicle was not insured. The driver will receive a traffic citation by mail.

Trey Wooten reported at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, his vehicle was struck by a white pickup on the parking lot at Walmart Supercenter at 333 S. Westwood Blvd. Both vehicles left the scene and Wooten made the report several hours after the accident.

Dorothy Neeley was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, in the 500 block of East Pine Street. The white 2001 Toyota passenger vehicle Neeley had been driving was released to its owner at the scene.
Neeley was arrested on Butler County failure to appear warrants for traffic and drug offenses; a Scott County warrant for possession of a controlled substance; and Poplar Bluff municipal failure to appear warrants for on traffic offenses. She was booked at the Butler County jail.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 8:37 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, to Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1211 N. Westwood Blvd. According to the report, employees stated there was no fire and no smoke. When the fire crew arrived, there was no fire and no smoke. They checked the alarm panel which showed the alarm was caused by an air duct detector. Employees stated this has been an issue before. Firefighters advised the staff should contact the district manager and have the manager contact the alarm company to come check the panel.

Firefighters responded to 202 E. Henry St. at 9:34 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, to an unauthorized burn. According to the report, when they arrived, the Poplar Bluff Police and the building inspector also had seen the smoke and came to investigate. PBPD and the inspector had Quincy Jones extinguish the fire.
The crew met with Jones and informed him of the city ordinance and informed him that he would remove the tire, make smaller piles of the debris away from the tree and he could burn during the daylight hours. Owner is Rhonda Anders.

Firefighters responded at 7:49 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, to an alarm system activation at Vine Street Apartments. According to the report, there was no fire and the alarm sounded due to a power outage.

Firefighters responded at 7:46 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, to a fire alarm at Menard’s, 3105 Oak Grove Road. According to the report, while en route dispatch advised the crew the alarm company called and stated the alarm was due to a power outage and nothing was showing. With an active alarm sounding, management believed they had taken a direct hit from lightning. The crew stayed on the scene until power could be restored and the alarm system reset. The alarm panel was still showing supervisors trouble and the manager stated they would contact the alarm company and they would get someone to look at the system.

Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, to Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1211 N. Westwood Blvd. According to the report, it was a system malfunction. Firefighters searched the building and found nothing. The alarm was caused by an air duct detector. Firefighters advised they needed to contact the alarm company and have them to service the system.

The alarm system at Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center, 1200 Camp Road, was activated at 10:47 a.m. Thursday, July 28, but there was no fire when the fire crew arrived. According to the report, after arriving, firefighters found an alarm system company technician, who was working on the system, had activated the alarm. There was no fire and the trip was investigative.

Firefighters responded to an alarm at 7:17 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at 1004 S. Broadway. According to the report, they discovered a UPS vehicle on the UPS Warehouse parking lot having mechanical issues, namely smoke was coming from the exhaust.

Firefighters responded at 2:23 a.m. Friday, July 29, to 2727 Holly Trail to a smoke detector activation. According to the report, dispatch reported the carbon monoxide alarm was going off. The crew met the home’s occupant, who stated the detector had been going off earlier, Firefighters found the detector was outdated and replaced with a new one.

Firefighters responded at 7:29 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, to an alarm sounding at 2210 Barron Road. According to the report, after walking the building and talking to an employee, it was determined a power outage set off the alarm.

Firefighters responded at 6:05 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, to a possible building fire at 928 Nooney St. According to the report, while firefighters didn’t see anything, a dryer had been on fire in the rear of the building. A resident had used a garden hose on the dryer. Firefighters pulled the dryer out the back door. The used four gallons on water to put out the hot spots. PPV fans were used to remove the smoke from the house.

Firefighters responded at 8:12 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, to an alarm at the Poplar Bluff Junior High School. According to the report, upon arrival, the crew learned there was no fire. Maintenance had made contact with the pull station at the front entrance accidentally during construction. The alarm was reset.

Firefighters responded at 11:01 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, to a smoke detector activation at Westwood Hills Health Care, 3100 Warrior Lane. According to the report, no fire was showing when fire personnel met the staff at the front entrance. The staff stated it was not the room where they were doing maintenance. Fire personnel went to the room to investigate and the smoke detector had activated in the room in which they were working.

Firefighters responded at 1:11 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, to 2049 Greenwood to a fire alarm system sounding due to a malfunction. According to the report, the fire crew met the property manager who stated it was a false alarm. Firefighters checked the floor showing the trouble and did not find any problem. The property manager reset the alarm.

Firefighters responded at 2.50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, to Pine and Sixth streets to a two-vehicle accident with injuries. According to the report, a child had a cut inside its lip. EMS arrived.

The state fire marshal will investigate a Thursday morning, Aug. 4, fire in a vacant home at 1003 Marion Avenue near the Black River Industrial Park Building. According to the report, the first crew of Poplar Bluff firefighters from the three stations responded at 5:07 a.m. to find fire in her kitchen and the exterior wall of the kitchen.
Firefighters pulled the pre-connect attack line and hit the fire on the exterior. As another crew arrived, firefighters made entry through the front door to extinguish the fire from inside the kitchen.
The third crew arrived and laid the supply line from the hydrant at Sportsman’s Park. At 7 a.m., the next shift relieved the crew. Firefighters used 700 gallons of water to put out the fire.
The property is owned by Robert Smith, 345 Highway AA.

Firefighters responded at 1:52 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, to what had been reported as a structure fire in the area of Sycamore and D streets. According to the report, fire crews from each of the three stations were responding until the first crew arrived and found an unauthorized burn at 724 N. Riverview Drive. Crews from Stations 2 and 3 were canceled. Firefighters used 100 gallons of water to the fire out. The firefighters explained to Shirley Marshall and others at the scene the city’s burn codes.

Firefighters responded at 7:523 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, to an outside rubbish fire at 2037 Tennessee St. to an outside rubbish fire, which was a couch burning outside. According to the report, upon arrival, firefighters talked with a Poplar Bluff police officer. The fire was nearly out and they made contact with the home owner Clinton Wallis who was in the process of extinguishing the fire.
The fire crew deployed the booster line to assist with extinguishing the fires. After the fire was out, they made Wallis aware of the city’s burn ordinance.

A 66-year-old woman sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 6:20 a.m. Saturday, July 30, on U.S. Highway 67, five miles north of Poplar Bluff.
According to the report, Alma G. Alonzo, 38, of Balch Springs, Texas was operating a 2021 Honda CRV southbound when it ran off the left side of the road, pulled back onto the road and struck a southbound 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by John F. Rogers, 64, of Poplar Bluff.
A passenger in the Grand Caravan, Maria R. Rogers, 66, of Poplar Bluff was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

An 80-year-old man sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, on U.S. Highway 60, 1 1/2 miles east of Van Buren.
According to the report, Wesley E. Oakley, 80, of Van Buren was operating a 2013 Nissan Altima eastbound when it turned into the path of an eastbound 2013 Ford F-250 operated by Cameran E. Weaver, 18, of Van Buren, causing Weaver’s truck to strike Oakley‘s car.
Oakley was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
