A Poplar Bluff man wanted for a violent felony in Colorado was apprehended Tuesday after a two-county chase that lasted more than half an hour.
According to Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley, Kristopher Campbell, 35, of Poplar Bluff is wanted in Colorado for robbery with intent to kill in relation to an incident which took place there in May of this year.
Whiteley said Poplar Bluff Police officers tried to stop Campbell late this morning near the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Katy Lane after officers recognized him from a chase the night before. Campbell reportedly fled from officers on to U.S. Highway 60 East, then turned on to Highway T.
Campbell then allegedly turned west onto Highway KK in northeastern Butler County before turning north onto Highway W and entering Wayne County. He allegedly west turned onto Highway 172 before getting back on U.S. Highway 67 and heading back toward Poplar Bluff. Speeds during the chase reportedly topped 90 miles per hour.
The 36-minute pursuit ended around noon just north of Poplar Bluff when officers deployed spike strips to deflate Campbell’s tires. After Campbell’s tires were deflated, his vehicle crashed and he was apprehended. He is currently at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for medical evaluation because of the accident, but he is expected to face several charges — including careless and imprudent driving, felony resisting arrest and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle — once he is better.
