Carl Gene Jones, son of the late Melbern James Jones and Geraldine (Baker) Jones, was born July 10, 1942 in Fremont, Missouri and departed this life on July 18, 2022. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by three sisters, Melba (1937) and Lavonne (1945) of the home and Kathryn Jones-Terry of Poplar Bluff, Missouri (October 2011). Carl’s brothers, Mel, Jr. of Van Buren passed July 2019 and James “Jim” of Willow Springs, passed in October 2020...

Carl Gene Jones, son of the late Melbern James Jones and Geraldine (Baker) Jones, was born July 10, 1942 in Fremont, Missouri and departed this life on July 18, 2022.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by three sisters, Melba (1937) and Lavonne (1945) of the home and Kathryn Jones-Terry of Poplar Bluff, Missouri (October 2011). Carl’s brothers, Mel, Jr. of Van Buren passed July 2019 and James “Jim” of Willow Springs, passed in October 2020.

On Jan. 24, 1965, Carl was united in marriage to Margaret Copeland in St. Louis, Missouri. Margaret survives of the home.

Also surviving are daughter, Debbie Lynn Cooper and husband, Dennis, of Van Buren,; two grandchildren, Sean Starnes and wife, Ariel, of Springfield, Missouri, and Brandi Starnes (Scott Barunica) and two great-grandsons, Maddix and Dax of Branson, Missouri; Great-granddaughter, Amaya Keele of Poplar Bluff; Carl’s sister, Carolyn Turpin and husband, Harold, of Nixa, Missouri; Sister-in-law, Bettie Jones of Van Buren and Loretta Jones of Willow Springs, Missouri.

Carl leaves many family and friends who mourn his passing. He leaves seven nephews and two nieces who loved him dearly.

Carl had been a resident of Carter County for much of his life. He was of the Christian faith and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Van Buren.

Carl was very involved in the church. He had been a Sunday School teacher to the teenage class for many years. He also served as the superintendent of the church for a number of years. In addition to local church duties, Carl also served on the Midwest Church Region Financial Committee for many years. Carl loved the Lord and witnessed God’s saving Grace and Mercy. He loved his family and friends.

A visitation was Friday, July 22, 2022 in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren, with the funeral service being Saturday, July 23, 2022 in the Mt. Zion Church of God of Prophecy in Van Buren. Rev. Don Foerster officiated. Burial was in the Green Mountain Cemetery in Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of God of Prophecy in Van Buren.
