“Last summer we spent a weekend hanging out at Cane Creek and said there’s nothing to do in this town for entertainment,” said Ted Liszewski, “So this dream was born on the banks of Cane Creek and here we are today.”

The dream was Bushwood’s, a new sports bar-type business located on Westwood Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

Liszewski and his wife Heather, along with friends Shanna and Derek Rahlmann, are co-owners of the new business.

“We live 50 yards away from each other, our kids play together, we probably couldn’t ask for much better,” said Liszewski.

The two-family business celebrated its grand opening Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony, but it had a soft opening the week before. During the ceremony Liszewski took the opportunity to thank those who were integral to the start of the new business. “I want to say thank you to First Midwest Bank, we owe you a great debt, literally and figuratively,” he said laughingly.

Bushwood’s has several tables available for dining, televisions are mounted above the bar area and there are four simulator bays available. The simulators feature a multi-sport package that includes golf with over 100-course options, baseball, hockey, soccer, bowling, dodgeball and more.

“It has been good so far, our simulator bays have been full pretty much consistently since we opened,” said Shanna Rahlmann. “We try to keep it family-friendly, but on the weekends after 10 (p.m.) we do keep it more adult-friendly.”

“We want to support the local high schools, so we encourage anybody, if they want to come put up a jersey or something, we encourage them,” said Liszewski. He went on to add that they have already spoken to some of the area high schools about opportunities for them to utilize the simulators.

“We’re closed on Mondays, but we’re going to try to get some sim(ulator) time for the local high schoolers because we want these kids to really enjoy golf,” said Liszewski.

“We’re going to have golf and bowling leagues in the fall and winter,” said Rahlmann.
