The Poplar Bluff City Council announced Lori Phelps is the new City Clerk/Treasurer by a unanimous vote. Phelps worked as a secretary for four years and has served as Deputy City Clerk for 10 years to date. The council feels that Lori has extensive knowledge of the position and will do a great job for them and the City of Poplar Bluff. Phelps feels her experience will be a benefit and she looks forward to working with the council to make a difference for her city...

The Poplar Bluff City Council announced Lori Phelps is the new City Clerk/Treasurer by a unanimous vote.

Phelps worked as a secretary for four years and has served as Deputy City Clerk for 10 years to date. The council feels that she has extensive knowledge of the position and will do a great job for them and the City of Poplar Bluff. Phelps feels her experience will be a benefit and she looks forward to working with the council to make a difference for her city.

“I’ve been here 14 years and I feel like I have a lot to offer,” she said.

The City Clerk/Treasurer role is “a support system to the council” according to Phelps. “It’s not really front and center... It’s basically a support roll, and I’m ready to support where I can.”

Phelps appointment was made during a special closed meeting of the City Council on July 11. She will be sworn in as City Clerk/Treasurer at the City Council meeting to be held on July 18 at 7 p.m. She is available by telephone at 573-686-8620 or by email at lphelps@pbcity.org.

She lives in Poplar Bluff with her husband and younger son, both of whom work in law enforcement. Her eldest son is a K-9 officer in Arkansas.

Current City Clerk Nevada Young will retire on Sept. 1, after 25 years of service to the City of Poplar Bluff.
