STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff Piranhas swim team tuned up for the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference Championships meet Saturday with swimmers lowering their times.
Poplar Bluff finished second as a team behind Farmington 620-568 while River City (428), host Ste. Genevieve (403) and Perryville (401.5) also at the meet Saturday.
Poplar Bluff’s Gunner Collins won three events, was second in another and helped a relay win in the 8-under division. Dakota Collins won two events in the 11-12 division, KK Willis, Maclaren Moore and Teagan Kassing each won an event in the 13-14 division while Carson Todd and a relay won in the 15-18 division.
Caroline Johnson and Mack Barnett won two events, Eli Cisne added another first place for Poplar Bluff in the 6-under age division.
Johnson won the 25-yard breaststroke and 25-butterfly, was second in the 25-backstroke and third in the 25-freestyle. Barnett won the 25-breaststroke and the 25-butterfly by 0.03 of a second in front of teammate Hunter Sparks while Eli Cisne won the 25-freestyle. Sparks had faster times in all three events while Max Clark lowered times in two events, finishing second in the breaststroke.
Gunner Collins, Matthew Lance, Ben Johnson and Liam Bates won the 8-under 100-freestyle with their fastest time.
Collins won the 25-freestyle, 25-backstroke and 50-freestyle while placing second in the 25-breaststroke. Lance was second in the 50-freestyle with his fastest time and also lowered his time in the 25-freestyle as did Johnson. Bates lowered his time in all three events while Luke Clark lowered his time in the 25-backstroke.
Luna Matthews-Fratesi lowered her times in all three events, finishing fourth in the 25-backstroke. Kyra Rommel was fourth in the 25-butterfly and lowered times in two other events as did Ryla Riefle. Presley Wilson placed fifth in the backstroke, Raylee Barnett sixth in two events, Remi Riefle lowered her time in one event while Mattalynn Mansfield was ninth in the backstroke.
In the 9-10 Division, Sophie Johnson placed second in the 100-freestyle and lowered her time in three events. Serena Fish had faster times in two events and Addy TIbbs had her fastest time in one. Matt Pestillos finished second by just under 3 seconds in the 100-freestyle, one of three events in which he lowered his time.
In the 11-12 Division, Collins won by 0.3 of a second in the 50-butterfly, lowered her time in winning the 50-backstroke and the 100-IM, finishing second by 1.02 seconds. Gracie Muse lowered her time in two events, placing fourth twice while Jessica Vick had her fastest times in three events and Claire Faries finished seventh. Parker Hays placed second in two events, third in two more and lowered his times in three events while Zach Pestillos was faster in four events with a third-place finish in the 100-freestyle.
KK Willis won the 50-freestyle and was second in the 100-freestyle, lowering her time in both. Maclaren Moore won the 200-IM by 7.19 seconds with her fastest time. Gracie Brown lowered her time in three events, finishing second to Moore. Teagan Kassing won the 50-freestyle by nearly 5 seconds and was second in the 100-breaststroke with a PR. Jack Hirtz also had a pair of PRs, finishing fourth in the 50-freestyle.
Todd won the 200-IM, was second in two races, both with his fastest times, finishing 0.17 of a second behind the winner in the 50-free. Cyrus Sagharichi was second in the 100-backstroke, Darius Sagharichi second in the 100-butterfly by just 0.13 of a second while Owen McDaniel had a pair of third-place finishes, Henry Duncan was fourth in a race and Billy Hirtz fifth in two events. Todd, McDaniel and the Sagharichis won the 200-medley relay.
