Marie A. Boxx, 95, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Boxx was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Butler County to John Edwin and Vera Kurz Sparkman. She graduated from Poplar Bluff High School Class of 1944. Mrs. Boxx worked for many years as a tax preparer for Desgranges Tax Service. ...

Marie A. Boxx, 95, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Boxx was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Butler County to John Edwin and Vera Kurz Sparkman. She graduated from Poplar Bluff High School Class of 1944. Mrs. Boxx worked for many years as a tax preparer for Desgranges Tax Service. She was a faithful member of Black Creek Missionary Baptist Church and lived her life in accordance with God’s word. She loved quilting and being outdoors working in her flower beds. Her prize quilt was of the State of Missouri.

On Dec. 29, 1944, she married Billy Malcom Boxx in Corning, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 2010.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Malcom Boxx and wife, Safiye, of Poplar Bluff and Billy Andrew Boxx and wife, Ellen, of Jonesboro, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Angela Boxx of Little Rock, Jeff Boxx and wife, Lisa, of Minneola, Florida, Lisa Boxx and husband, Matt, of Huntsville, Alabama and William Boxx and wife, Katherine, of California; one great-grandson, Andrew Boxx, also of Florida; and a brother, Robert Sparkman of Poplar Bluff.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Boxx was also preceded in death by her infant daughter Annie Boxx, her parents and five siblings, John, Kenneth, Meredith, Norma, and Carol.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel, 1100 Iron Bridge Road in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sparkman Cemetery in Butler County with Rev. Russell Chitwood officiating.
