Twin Rivers school district is now one of 128 districts in the state of Missouri that has adopted the four-day school week, according to the Missouri State University College four-day school week resource center.
A special session was held Monday night to adopt the new calendar for the 2022-23 school year.
During the special session, the board discussed the results of a survey that was distributed amongst teachers in the district to decide on the new calendar.
Some issues were presented by teachers and staff regarding built-in days and the use of alternative methods of instruction, or AMI.
“These are the people that are in the in the buildings, in the trenches, in the classrooms every single day. So these (are) opinions that I’m going to listen to and value,” said board member Jenny Hester.
After some discussion, the unanimous vote was made to adopt calendar option one, which will begin for students on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and dismiss for summer break on May 26, 2023.
Classes will begin at 7:45 am and end at 3:30 pm. Weekly classes will be Tuesday through Friday for the upcoming calendar year. Four AMI days will be added to the end of the calendar.
“I feel comfortable working with leaders to put together a plan to improve upon your previous experience with (AMI),” said superintendent Rob Brown.
Students will attend on-campus learning for a total of 147 calendar days, which includes four built-in snow days that will be removed at the end of the year if not used for inclement weather.
A motion was made to accept a bid to replace the light bulbs with LED bulbs “to make Twin Rivers greener,” said one board member.
The bid was unanimously accepted and stands to save the district substantially on energy costs.
The July board meeting is scheduled for 6 pm, Thursday, July 14.
