Vinetia Behka Samel, 34, of the 400 block of Arthur Street was arrested at 2:53 a.m. Monday, June 6, in the 700 block of Highway 53 on failure to appear warrants for second degree burglary and stealing. Samel was booked at the Butler County jail.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters recovered a jet ski from Black River. According to the report, Poplar Bluff Street Department Superintendent Jerry Lawson noticed a jet ski floating downstream on Black River. Firefighters at 7:42 a.m. Monday, June 6, launched the department’s boat at Sportsman’s Park while a second crew went to Clinton Park to assist in recovering the jet ski. The ski was returned to Sportsman’s Park, where it was loaded on a trailer and taken to the station. Efforts are being made to locate the owner through the serial numbers.

Firefighters responded at 4:06 p.m. Monday, June 6, to the Manor, 2071 Barron Road, for a smoke detector activation. According to the report, en route, firefighters were advised the Manor staff already had made contact and advised it was a false alarm. The firefighters continued on to make contact with the staff who stated the popcorn machine had set off the alarm.

Firefighters responded to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at 10:31 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, in the 1800 block of Maud Street. According to the report, upon arrival two emergency medical services crews were on the scene attending to the patient and firefighters were not needed.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:42 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, to a smoke scare and odor of smoke at the intersection of Main and Davis streets. According to the report, once assessing the area, the crew did not find smoke, but realized it was fog.

County firefighters responded at 5:41 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, to a mobile home fire, 47 Magpie Lane. According to the report, fire damaged the couch, siding on the front of the house and smoke damage throughout the home. Owner is Jonas Duckett.

County firefighters responded at 9:53 a.m. Thursday, June 2, to an alarm at Westwood Baptist Church. According to the report, the alarm was a false alarm, but county firefighters met Poplar Bluff firefighters at the scene.

Ryan D. Capper, 33, of Poplar Bluff was arrested at 10:34 p.m. Monday, June 6, in Butler County on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, failure to register a motor vehicle and no insurance. He was booked at the Butler County jail on a 24-hour hold.

A 60-year-old man was killed and a 74-year-old man sustained moderate injuries in a three-vehicle accident at 8:23 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, on U.S. Highway 412, four miles east of Kennett in Pemiscot County.
According to the report, Roy L. Witfield, 74, of Piggott, Ark. was operating a 2013 Lincoln MKX westbound in the eastbound lane and was struck head-on by an eastbound 1994 Oldsmobile operated by Frank Morris, 60, of Kennett. Witfield’s vehicle then struck an eastbound 2002 Freightliner and towed unit operated by Owen A. Welty, 28, of Bloomfield.
Morris was transported by ambulance to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. by Dr. Darrell English. He is the 28th fatality in Troop E this year.
Witfield sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Piggott (Ark.) Community Hospital.

Kevin D. Irby, 37, of Qulin was arrested at 4:56 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, in Stoddard County on suspicion of misdemeanor DWI (methamphetamine), driving while suspended and no seat belt. He was released for medical treatment.

A 41-year-old woman sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, on Highway AD, one-quarter mile east of County Road 503.
According to the report, Christy L. Fielder, 41, of Dexter was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry westbound when it ran off the left side of the road and struck a ditch.
Fielder was transported by ambulance to SoutheastHEALTH in Dexter.
