DONIPHAN — A Florida man who was allegedly wanted for murder drowned on Current River Sunday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the MSHP, Sherron D. McCombs, 22, of Tampa, Florida was swimming at 3 p.m. June 5 at a float camp four miles north of Doniphan when he reportedly began to panic, submerged and did not resurface.
McCombs was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m. by Ripley County coroner Mike Jackson. His body was taken to Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.
McCombs is the second drowning in Troop E this year.
McCombs also was wanted in connection with a pair of murders that took place in Tampa, one last fall and one at the beginning of this year.
According to Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay, the first murder occurred on Nov. 1, 2021 and the second on Jan. 3, of this year. He was facing two counts of first degree murder (premeditated), two counts of first degree murder firearm (premeditated), conspiracy to commit first degree murder and three counts of tampering with physical evidence.
