The Parks and Recreation Department is overseeing Earth Day events around Poplar Bluff Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Thursday’s event is a DIY Tiki Torch class at King David’s Winery from 4-5:30 p.m. Participation is $5 per person and attendees will learn how to turn a wine bottle into chic outdoor lighting. King David’s is located at 1844 County Road 448, more information is available by calling 573-686-8645.
A special Earth Day celebration will be held at Hendrickson Park from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday. Visitors can drop in at any time to join the celebration and make upcycled crafts.
According to Program Coordinator Kennedy Thayer, the Parks and Recreation staff has collected recycling all year to prepare for these fun and creative Earth Day projects.
“We will create bird feeders, take home planter cups with a spider plant (a house plant) and a delicious creation that includes worms...and dirt,” she said.
Parents are welcome to bring a family picnic and kids can play on the playground at the conclusion of the program.
Also at Hendrickson Park, Earth Day Yoga with Amal will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. This outdoor yoga session is meant to “restore and give thanks to the earth while exercising the mind and body,” according to a Parks and Recreation Department press release. All ages and skill levels are invited. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.
Hendrickson Park is located at 1200 West Davis St. More information about the park is available at pbparks.org.
