Three Rivers College Patrons of the Arts and the Rodgers Theatre have partnered to present Rhonda Vincent at 7 p.m. April 8, at the Rodgers Theatre.
“Vincent is born and raised in Missouri, and we are excited to welcome this bluegrass legend to Poplar Bluff once again,” said Robert Abney, director of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.
Vincent, who was born in Greentop and now lives in Lake of the Ozarks, said she is always glad to perform in her homestate.
“Missouri’s one of our most traveled states this year,” she remarked.
Rhonda Vincent returns to Poplar Bluff as a seven-time Grammy Award nominee and winner of Best Bluegrass Album in 2017. She and her band will focus on songs from their Grammy-nominated CD “Music Is What I See,”
“We don’t use a setlist, so we kind of read the audience, whatever they’re enjoying,” she said, adding “Music Is What I See” is still fresh in audiences’ minds. The album includes the hits “I’d Like To Be A Train,” “I Ain’t Been Nowhere,” and “Unchained Melody.”
“We have, I think, maybe the very first bluegrass version of ‘Unchained Melody,’ a classic, and it’s on the new album. And now we can’t really do a show without doing that song... (It’s) a song that can you can pledge your love to people with, and I think that people are ready for that, they want to be to show their love for each other,” she said.
She and her band, the Rage, also enjoy playing Missouri-centered songs like “All-American Bluegrass Girl” and “Missouri Moon” while touring the state.
Vincent is also featured on Dolly Parton’s new book and CD “Run, Rose, Run” where she and Val Story sing with Dolly on her song “Firecracker.”
