Doris Ann Thornton Mortimer passed away at Ascension St Francis-Bartlett, Tennessee March 28, 2022. She battled Alzheimer’s disease for the last seven years of her life with the help and love of her devoted husband.
Doris Ann was born in Ash Hill Township in Butler County, Missouri, Oct. 3, 1935. Doris Ann was a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She was the third of six children born to Louis M. and Lois K. Thornton.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Louis M. and Lois K. Thornton; her brothers: Bill Thornton, Gerald Thornton, Dohn Thornton and Michael Thornton; and one grandchild: Heather Greer Sells.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Robert G. Mortimer, PhD, of Memphis, Tennessee, and her sister, Edith Lorraine Marsh, St. George, Utah.
She is survived by her seven children: Victoria Fister, Carthage, Tennessee, Tamara Fister Hansbrough, Bowling Green, Kentucky, Peter Dan Fister, Poplar Bluff, Kevin Michael Fister, St Louis,Sean Rogers Fister, Hilton Head, South Carolina, Lisa Ann Fister, Glen Carbon, Illinois, Robert Corbett Fister, Franklin, Tennessee. She is survived by 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Mrs. Mortimer's honor can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
