Martez Demetric Smith, 32, of Kennett, was booked Monday, March 7, at the Butler County jail on a warrant for stealing.

Deputies were dispatched to Redman Creek campground on Highway T in Wappapello at 8:15 p.m. Monday, March 7, to reports of a male subject stating he was being attacked by subjects who were trying to kill him. Deputies then made contact with George and Joshua Hampton, who refused to comply with the investigation. Joshua Hampton reportedly assaulted a deputy at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of second degree assault and resisting arrest. George Hampton was arrested on suspicion of property damage and DWI. Both are being held at the Butler County jail.

Deputies were dispatched to a report of shoplifting at Berger’s Gas Mart at 71 County Road 323 at 5:34 p.m. Saturday, March 5. Employees reported a female subject had stolen store merchandise and was accompanied by two males. The sujects were reported as driving a teal early model GMC Sierra pickup. The investigation is ongoing.

Aliece Carter reported between Sunday, Feb. 20, that unknown subjects unlawfully entered her property in the 13000 block of U.S. Highway 60 in Ellsinore between Feb. 15 and 18. Multiple large tools and hand tools were reported as stolen. The nvestigation is ongoing.

Deputies responded to a report of illegal dumping Thursday, March 3, in the 3100 block of Highway DD. No suspect has been identified and the investigaion is ongoing.

Deric Johnson, of the 400 block of County Road 602, reported Saturday, March 5, sometime during the previous month unknown person(s) entered his residence. Multiple items were reported as stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL
Zachariah E. Everhart, 27, of Silva was arrested at 10:26 a.m. Monday, March 7, in Bollinger County on a Wayne County failure to appear warrant and failure to obey judge’s orders on a moving traffic violation and on suspicion of false impersonation to obstruct justice. He was booked at the Bollinger County jail.

George L. Hampton, 50, of Murphysboro, Illinois was arrested at 8:34 p.m. Monday, March 7, in Butler County on suspicion of DWI (drugs), no insurance and no seat belt. He was booked at the Butler County jail on a 12-hour hold.
BUTLER COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT
County firefighters were dispatched at 3:16 p.m. Friday, March 4, to report of a house fire at 334 County Road 578. According to the report, there was heavy smoke and water damange throughout the residence.
