Deputies were dipatched Saturday, Feb. 26, at 6:51 p.m. to the 400 block of Oak Hill Road in response to a verbal dispute between neighbors. Reportedly, a single gunshot was fired. Officers found two subjects in a verbal argument with one party reportedly wielding an ax and making threats. In response, the second party reportedly retrieved a shotgun from his residence and allegedly fired a single round into the air as a deterrent to the ax wielding party. Responding officers cleared the situation and no charges were filed by law enforcement or private parties.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 6:53 p.m. at County Road 602 and Highway AA on a black Plymouth Breeze after observing multiple equipment failures and no visible license plate. The driver allegedly opened the door of the vehicle and began stepping out despite the officer’s verbal command to stay in the vehicle. Subject was detained and identifed as Roosevelt Verner. He was later arrested on suspicion of a revoked driver’s license and multiple priors of the same.

Dispatch was notified Thursday, Feb. 24, at 3:20 p.m. by an off-duty officer reporting a large amount of smoke under a bridge on Highway B near County Road 559. The fire appeared to be an attempt to burn down the bridge. A suspect was identified as Joseph Smith of Poplar Bluff. He was arrested and transported to the Butler County Jail. Formal charges are pending.

Brandon Roper, of Roper’s Excavating, reported Saturday, Feb. 26, that between Feb. 16 and Feb. 21, an unidentified subject had damaged an excavator owned by Roper on County Road 320. Damage was estimated at over $5,200. Roper also reported over $2,100 worth of other property was missing from the site. Investigation is ongoing.

Natasha S. Perryman, 43, of Whitewater, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 27, on suspicion of shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance. She was booked at the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

Jared Metcalf, 26, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 28, on suspicion of shoplifting, Carter County warrants for failure to register a motor vehicle, failure to obey traffic signal and Poplar Bluff city warrants for failure to appear no proof of auto insurance. He was booked at the Butler County jail.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters responded to an alarm at 10:49 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, 3100 Oak Grove Road, indicating possible smoke and pull station activation. Firefighters met with maintenance staff who stated the alarm show activitation in a utility room on the sixth floor. Upon inspection, firefighters found no signs of active fire. Hospital maintenance advised to reset the alarm.

Mary J. Burton, 61, of Piedmont was arrested at 4:49 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, in Wayne County on suspicion of felony hindering prosecution. She was booked at the Wayne County jail on a 24-hour hold.

Mercedes K. Gowen, 29, of Doniphan was arrested at 7:59 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, in Ripley County on suspicion of misdemeanor DWI (alcohol). She was released.

Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 9:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, on U.S. Highway 60, six miles west of Poplar Bluff.
According to the report, Rossi L. Hicks, 19, of Grandin was operating a 2015 Toyota RAV4 westbound when it struck in the rear a 2008 Ford Focus operated by Melissa S. Brooks, 52, of Ellsinore.
Brooks and two of her passengers, Randy A. Warren, 51, of Ellsinore and a 15-year-old female from Ellsinore, were all taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Walls, 44, of Clubb was arrested at 7:43 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Wayne County on a Christian County failure to appear warrant for a weapon offense, a Wayne County probation violation warrant, a Butler County failure to appear warrant for possession of a controlled substance, and on suspicion of felony resisting arrest by fleeing, felony possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at the Wayne County jail.
