POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:13 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, to the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Shelby Road. A SUV left the roadway and overturned on its side. One passenger was extracted and transported by Butler County EMS to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, according to the report.

Butler County Fire Department transferred a call at 3:11 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department from a resident of the 1000 block of Fay Street who reported smoke from a wood stove inside her residence was filling the residence. When crews arrived, they found no smoke emitting from woodstove, according to the report. Thermal cameras were used to check the area around the woodstove and inside the residence. No signs of fire were found.

Firefighters responded to an alarm at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the 1100 block of Three Rivers Boulevard. According to the report, the alarm system showed an attic detection. No outward signs of fire were present. The attic was checked and cleared. Building maintenance was contacted to service the alarm.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:57 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, to an alarm at Jay’s Corner Store in the 1000 block of South Broadway in response to reports of smoke coming from vents inside the business. A thermal imaging camera was used to inspect the structure and no signs of heat signatures were found. Employees advised a heating unit had been turned on for the first time in days causing the smoke.

Firefighters were dispatched to West Henry and Karen Drive at 9:06 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in response to a report of smoke in the area. A small unauthorized burn was found in the 2000 block of Weeds Street. A fire can was used to extinguish.

Firefighters were dispatched to South Broadway Apartments at 9:06 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in response to reports of smoke emitting from soffit and vents on the roof. Upon investigation, an active fire was found in the apartment of occupant Shanghi Eudly. Fire was found on top of a cookstove and the cabinets above were burning. Utilities and Poplar Bluff Housing Authority were contacted and subsequently electric and gas were shut off. Eudly stated he had left residence a half hour before the fire began and the stove had been turned off. Forty gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupant.

Firefighters were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North C Street at 10:37 Sunday, Feb. 27, in response to a possible electrical fire. Natural gas appliances within the residence were found to be covered in soot and appeared to be malfunctioning. Spire Gas was contacted and the gas was shut off and locked until the resident could make repairs.

Firefighters responded at 1:56 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, to a report of a large pile of burning trash behind a residence in the 900 block of Lester Street. Contact was made with the occupant who was made aware of burning ordinances. Twenty gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were dispatched at 7:26 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, to the Holiday Inn at 2781 N. Westwood Blvd. in response to a report of smoke on the fourth floor. All areas were checked and occupants were cleared from the structure. Embers were found in the first floor elevator. A housekeeping employee stated she was vacuuming the area around the elevator when the door closed on the cord, cutting it into. This was found to have caused an electrical short arcing in the elevator shaft and starting a fire in the lint and oil residue. An ABC extinguisher was used to extinguish the fire and the smoke was mitigated. The structure was cleared and occupants and staff were allowed back into the structure.

BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

Kenneth Keith Gipson, 44, of Doniphan was booked at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Butler County jail on a warrant for failure to appear on non-support.

Elijah Joseph Smith, 32, of Cape Girardeau was booked at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Butler County jail on suspicion of knowingly burning or exploding an item.

Deputies made contact with a reporting party at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, in regard to stealing. The individual reportedly purchased a storage container for $4,830 from another individual to be delivered to her residence in the 4000 block of Highway M the following week. The reporting party advised she never received the storage container and was not refunded her money.

Deputies were dispatched at 12:21 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, to a residence in the 100 block of Haystack Lane in reference to stealing. The reporting party advised his 1988 Chevrolet truck had been stolen.

A deputy was dispatched Tuesday, Feb. 22, to the 18000 block of Highway 53 to Southeast Coop for possible stealing. Employees said suspected individuals driving a silver passenger sedan had stolen fuel on multiple occasions. According to the report, the suspect(s) attempted to gain access to the locked fuel pumps but were unsuccessful. A pump valve valued at $300 was reported as damaged.

Deputies were dispatched at 4:46 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, to a residence in the 300 block of County Road 4222 in reference to a report of property damagedamage. Lanora Barton reported her 2005 GMC Yukon had been vandalized.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL

A 43-year-old man sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident at 3:56 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, on Highway 49, two miles east of Williamsville.

According to the report, Howard D. Stacy, 43, of Williamsville was operating a 2012 Ford Edge eastbound when it struck a downed tree in the road.

Stacy was transported by East Wayne EMS to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 4:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, on U.S. Highway 60, one mile west of Morehouse.

According to the report, Heather K. Beeson, 30, of Sikeston was operating a 2005 Ford Escape eastbound when it pulled into the path of a westbound 2016 Toyota Corolla operated by Kurt D. Richardson, 45, of Poplar Bluff. Richardson’s Corolla then struck Beeson’s Escape.

Beeson was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, while Richardson and a passenger in Beeson’s vehicle, Franklin D. Lee, 24, of Bernie, were both taken by private conveyance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Thomas C. Spain, 35, of Greenville was arrested at 8:24 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Butler County on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and no license plate lamp. He was booked at the Butler County jail on a 24-hour hold.

Adrianne C. Sullivan, 25, of Puxico was arrested at 11:02 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Butler County on suspicion of DWI and driving the wrong direction on the highway. She was booked at the Butler County jail on a 12-hour hold.

Phillips, 30, of Scott City was arrested at 11:42 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Stoddard County on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine, DWI (drugs), possession of 10 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked at the Stoddard County jail on a 24-hour hold.

Dylan S. Mims, 26, of Bernie was arrested at 4:58 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in Dunklin County on suspicion of DWI, failure to yield, no insurance and no seat belt. He was released.

Jamie T. Martin, 40, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, was arrested at 8:11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Dunklin County on a Malden Police Department warrant for contempt of court. She was booked at the Malden Police Department.

Emily J. Hoss, 30, of Poplar Bluff was arrested at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in Wayne County on a Jefferson County misdemeanor failure to appear warrant for expired vehicle registration, a Wayne County misdemeanor failure to appear warrant for a non-moving traffic violation, and on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and failure to register a motor vehicle. She was booked at the Wayne County jail.

Nathan G. McGarity, 70, of Greenville was arrested at 6:44 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in Wayne County on suspicion of felony no driver’s license, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. He was released.
