Readings for Butler County indicated the area received just under 0.25 inches of sleet as of 5:30 p.m.

National Weather Service Paducah meteorologist Derrick Snyder said the sleet was expected to transition to freezing rain as night fell, probably continuing into early Thursday morning. After that he predicted a lull in the wintry mix until the afternoon.

The slush and sleet have made roads hazardous, particularly untreated back roads and bridges.

“So that will make for some very hazardous travel, as well as accumulations on trees and power lines, so we can’t rule out some scattered power outages as well,” Snyder noted.

Southeast Missouri is still expected to receive 0.25-0.5 inches of ice, especially in the Bootheel region.

Temperatures will rise to above freezing on Friday.
