A Poplar Bluff man sits in the Butler County jail after he allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old girl.
William A. Greer, 18, of the 800 block of Vine Street is charged with the unclassified felony of first-degree statutory rape or attempted statutory rape, the unclassified felony of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy and the Class C felony of third degree child molestation. He is currently being held in the Butler County jail, with a $100,000 bond.
According to the probable cause statement by Poplar Bluff Police Department Detective Corey Mitchell, PBPD Patrolman Selena Torres was dispatched to the emergency room at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in reference to an alleged sexual assault.
Upon arrival, Torres contacted the alleged victim’s mother, who told Torres that her daughter had sexual relations with an 18-year-old male, who was later identified by witnesses as Greer.
The alleged victim told officers Greer believed she was 17 years old, but he later was made aware that the alleged victim was only 13.
The teen said she and Greer exchanged Snapchat information and began to converse over Snapchat, according to the probable cause. She also stated she believed she was “dating” Greer.
The alleged victim then told Torres she and Greer had sexual intercourse.
Because PBRMC does not administer sexual assault kits, the girl was transported by ambulance to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital for a sexual assault kit to be administered.
After Greer was arrested, Mitchell interviewed him at PBPD headquarters, where Greer reportedly waived his rights and consented to have his DNA taken. During the interview, Greer allegedly admitted to having sex with the girl.
Greer was slated to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
