POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters responded at 5:24 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, to a reported structure fire at 1034 Grand Avenue. Upon arrival, they were told by occupants Linda Brown and Queen Longford there had been a small grease fire in the kitchen but it was put out. Firefighters set up a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the home.

Firefighters were dispatched at 1:51 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, to the intersection of Adam Street and Wiseman Avenue for a report of a vehicle stranded in water. Upon arrival, they found an SUV had driven into a ditch. They stood by until a tow truck arrived.

Firefighters responded at 1:32 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, to 804 Davis St., where they found residents burning trash. They told the residents about the city’s burn ordinance and used 25 gallons of water to put the fire out.

Firefighters were dispatched at 6:56 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, to a reported structure fire at 514 N. Sixth St. Resident Justin Aston reported a fire in the kitchen, but it was out when firefighters made entry. They shut off the main electrical breaker and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots before setting up a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the home.

County firefighters responded at 12:42 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, to a dryer fire in a residence at 409 Third Street in Fisk.

County firefighters responded at 3:51 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, to Heartland Express, 4155 S. Westwood Blvd., where the wheels of a semi trailer caught fire.

Eric N. Lambert, 43, of the 900 block of Cedar Street was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, on suspicion of second-degree trespassing, second-degree property damage and possession of methamphetamine. He was booked at the Butler County jail.

Tarrington L. Marks, 26, of Springfield was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Community Supervision Center on a parole violation warrant. He was booked at the Butler County jail.

Martin W. Hicks, 56, of Fisk was arrested at 3:28 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Community Supervision Center on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and a parole violation warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Jason R. Bettis, 43, of Winona, Missouri, was booked Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Butler County jail on a pre-trial release violation. He later was released.

Brian K. Taylor, 47, of Broseley was booked Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Butler County jail on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault. He later was released.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL
A 73-year-old man was killed and a 15-year-old female sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, on U.S. Highway 412, four miles east of Kennett.
According to the report, Thomas L. Lowe, 41, of Cape Girardeau was operating a 2015 Subaru Forester westbound when it rear ended a westbound 2016 Buick Enclave operated by William T. Howard, 73, of Hayti.
Both vehicles then ran off the road. Both Howard and a 15-year-old female in Howard’s vehicle were taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, where Howard was pronounced dead at 1:20 p.m. by Pemiscot County coroner Jim Brimhall.
Howard is the fourth fatality in Troop E this year.

Nicholas M. Sahno, 39, of Greenville was arrested at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in Wayne County on a Jefferson County felony warrant for drug trafficking and a Wayne County felony parole violation warrant. He was booked at the Wayne County jail.

A 37-year-old man sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, on U.S. Highway 67, one-half mile west of Neelyville.
According to the report, Freddie R. Leonard, 43, of Corning, Arkansas was operating a 2011 Dodge Journey eastbound when it failed to yield and was struck by a northbound 2018 Volvo operated by Gary E. Hughes, 37, of Fort Worth, Texas. The crash knocked down a stop sign.
Hughes was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Pamela D. Kelley, 42, of Malden was arrested at 9:22 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in Scott County on suspicion of felony possession of diazepam. She was released.
