Edward Eugene Terrell, 86, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away Feb. 11. 2022 surrounded by family at home in Poplar Bluff.
Edward was born Aug. 19, 1935, to Willard and Gladys (Colley) Terrell in Sikeston, Missouri. He married his lifelong love Mary Elizabeth Mckenzie Feb. 2,1953, who preceded him in death on May 8, 1999.
Edward proudly served in the United States Army for 21 years he retired earning the Bronze Star among many other awards. Ed earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology while in the service. After leaving the Army, Ed sold life insurance for Ottis Allen Insurance for several years, he then co-owned Becks Book Bug, he then co-owned Oak Dale Care Center which he sold to be with Mary in her final years. After Mary’s passing, he could not sit still and held several jobs to keep him busy. He drove a delivery van for Panther Trucking, worked as a gas attendant at Kroger’s fuel center.
Ed loved his country, his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren more than anything else in the world. He would be tough when needed, but he was always there for them.
Edward is survived by his four children, Linda (Chris) Grider of Poplar Bluff, Sharon Sorrell of Poplar Bluff, Larry (Sheila) Terrell of Doniphan, Rebecca (Rodney) Ogden of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Louis (Jennifer) Grider, Shanda (Kenny) Felts, Jason (Jennifer) Langley, Elizabeth Cross, Sarah Cross, Joshua Terrell, Timothy Gilmore, Elizabeth Bishop, Jacob Terrell, Matthew Ogden, and Mary-Elizabeth Ogden; great-grandchildren, Blake, Landon, Kingston Cross, Booke Langley, Mackenzie Luley, Gavin Cross, Conner Daugherty, Dawson, Grace, Cody and Preston Bishop, Abigail MacNutt, Madison Bowling, Cody Leutert, Parker and Owen Felts, Caden and Caroline Grider. Also surviving is his brother Lee Terrell of Kansas. Many nephews’ nieces and cousins whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; brothers, William “Billy” Terrell, James “Jim “Terrell; sisters-in-law, Anita Clayton Terrell, Hope Edwards Terrell, Mitsuko Terrell; father-in-law and mother-in-law Virgil and Iva Morrison,
Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Fowler Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jason Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery with full military rites. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations to be made to homeless veterans.
