Gene Watson’s scheduled Feb. 5 performance at The Rodgers Theatre was canceled by the winter storm that blanketed Missouri in ice, sleet and snow last week.
Rodgers director Wally Duncan said the promoters made the call on rescheduling.
“This was one of those shows that the Rogers were just renting the facility to a promoter from Nashville who was bringing Gene Watson here,” he explained.
Watson will return June 25 and tickets purchased for the Feb. 5 concert date will be viable for the performance.
Watson has performed at The Rodgers Theatre previously and rallies dedicated fans to each show, so Duncan is looking forward to his June concert.
“He’s got a big following. He always packs the house. He had a string of hits in the late 70s and early 80s, country singles. And so he’s maintained a pretty big following,” Duncan said. He added fans come from far and wide, and he once spoke to a concertgoer from Nevada who had followed Watson’s tour to Poplar Bluff.
The Rodgers Theatre’s next show is rising bluegrass quartet The Finley Rivers Boys. The show is co-sponsored with Three Rivers College.
