Darrell Gene Guffey, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away Dec. 29, 2021, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Darrell was born Nov. 21, 1947, to Orion and Vida (Niswonger) Guffey in Alicia, Arkansas. He married Janet (Collins) Guffey Dec. 18, 1973, in San Diego, California.
Darrell was a disabled Vietnam Veteran who served in the Bobcat C Company, 2nd Platoon, February 1968-February 1969. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, two O/S Bars, one Purple Heart, the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.
Darrell enjoyed reading, listening to music, going for drives and bird watching.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Janet V. Guffey; daughter, Valerie Guffey; son, John Paul (Daina) Fransisco; three sisters, Carolyn (David) Crain, Judy Griffin, and Tammy Allbritton; four grandchildren, Landon Evans, Austin McKee, Cierra and Cidney Fransisco; three great-grandchildren, Orion Decker, Ophelia Ventura, and Lani Crumpton; as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Sue Mann; two brothers, Harold and Thomas Guffey; one special cousin, Ronnie Niswonger.
Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services followed by funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor Jim Schremp will be officiating. Graveside committal service and inurnment was at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Briar, Missouri with full military honors.
