Navy Chief, Vietnam Vet, Purple Heart recipient. PhD, none of these meant anything to Donald Joseph Skaggs Sr. compared to husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and all-around HERO. The hero was, of course, bestowed on him by all who knew and loved him. Dad lived his life by a single guiding principal, do what is right especially when no one was looking. He has left an enormous hole in the lives of those left to carry on, but we have his example to keep us strong. He is with his loving wife, Penny, now and together they will continue to watch over their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the rest of their loving family.
The funeral will be held at Fowler & Sons in Neelyville on Tuesday, Dec. 21. A viewing for friends will be held from noon-1 p.m. The service will follow immediately after the viewing. The graveyard service will follow and will be held at the Naylor cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Donald would have wanted a donation in his name to be made to St. Jude Children’s research hospital.
