A resident of the 1800 block of County Road 604 reported at 8:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, illegal dumping on his/her property. Old furniture and several bags pf trash were had been thrown into a ditch and along a field road access.

POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
Firefighters were dispatched at 12:35 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, to Black River Industrial Park Road, where a vehicle was reported on fire. Upon arrival, they located the vehicle but there was no fire. It was determined fluid was leaking onto the exhaust manifold, causing smoke.

Firefighters responded at 11:41 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, to a report of a car in the Black River at North Second Street. They assisted police, Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Division and towing company personnel remove the car.

Firefighters responded at 5:18 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, to a reported fire behind Greg’s Auto Sales. They found a controlled debris fire at LeGrand Feed, 1501 Hudson Drive, and secured the area around it so it would not spread. They told the business to stay with the fire until it was out.

Firefighters responded at 10:31 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, to a structure fire at the 702 S. Eighth Street home owned by Joe Joiner. They made entry and used saws and hand tools to cut holes in the floor to access the fire. They used 500 gallons of water to put the fire out and used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots. They also set up a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke.

Firefighters responded at 8:25 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to a reported structure fire at the 702 S. Eighth Street home owned by Joe Joiner. They found heavy flames upon arrival and used 1,250 gallons of water to put the fire out. A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots and the city building inspector was notified. A positive pressure ventilation fan also was set up to clear smoke.

Firefighters were dispatched at 4:14 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to a motor vehicle accident on Davis Street. They assisted with traffic control and removed fluids from the roadway.

Firefighters responded at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, to a sounding alarm at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, 3100 Oak Grove Road. It was determined dust in the air had set off the detector.

Firefighters responded to a dispatch at 12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, directing them to a fire at Unity Academy, 1801 W. Maud St. Upon arrival, they were told a child had pulled the alarm.

Melissa J. Medina, 51, who listed County Road 533 and Lester Street addresses, was arrested at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, on Lester Street on suspicion of third-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage. She was booked at the Butler County jail.

County firefighters responded at 1:16 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, to the Highway 60 bypass, where four small roadside grass fires were burning.

County firefighters responded at 3:24 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, to reported smoke in a house on Red Pine Lane. The furnace had shorted out, causing the smoke, and firefighters cut the power to the unit.
