Local law enforcement officials recovered an unoccupied vehicle from the Black River Sunday afternoon, which had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

The vehicle, a white, four-door, 1997 Buick, was reported stolen at 12:53 a.m. Sunday from a residence in the 1000 block of North Second Street.

At approximately 1 p.m., police patrolman Zachary Tubb located the vehicle submerged in the Black River, near the walking bridge at Ray Clinton Park.

The Poplar Bluff Fire Department was called to the scene as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Water Division.

There were no injuries reported with the discovery of the car.

According to reports, water patrolmen escorted a tow truck driver by boat to the vehicle so a cable could be attached to it, and subsequently, it was removed from the water.

No suspects have been identified in the theft of the vehicle, police said.
