A Doniphan man was among three people killed in accidents on Southeast Missouri roads over the weekend, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
Two accidents occurred Friday night, while a third occurred Sunday morning.
Christopher J. Koehler, 39, of Doniphan was operating a 2014 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Highway 142 at 7:29 p.m. Friday, five miles east of Doniphan, when it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Ripley County coroner Michael Jackson.
Later that evening, a Caruthersville man was killed when his pick up truck struck a downed utility pole on Highway 84, two miles east of Hayti.
Marc J. Travis , 28, of Caruthersville was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado westbound when it struck a utility pole in the roadway, traveled off the right side of the road and overturned, ejecting the driver. Travis and a passenger in his vehicle, Christina L. Sampley, 34, of Caruthersville were transported by private convenience to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti. Travis was pronounced dead at 12:44 a.m. Saturday by Dr. Mina Massey, while Sampley sustained moderate injuries.
The third accident occurred at 11:10 a.m. Sunday on northbound Interstate 55 at mile marker 14.6, just south of Hayti. Kenneth S. Cripps, 55, of Memphis, Tennessee was operating a 2013 Freightliner northbound when it struck the rear of another northbound 2019 Freightliner operated by Damon Tabron, 26, of Canal Winchester, Ohio. Cripps was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 a.m. by Pemiscot County coroner Jim Brimhall.
With this weekend’s deaths, there have been 57 people killed in accidents on Troop E roads this year.
