Erika Prinz Cohen, 97, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at her home. She was born in Wuppertal Elberfeld, Germany on Nov. 24, 1923 to Karl and Margarete Prinz.
She married Robert Cohen, Maryland, in 1948 and moved to the United States, becoming the first war bride of WWII in Jonesboro. Even though she was born in Germany, she was very proud to be a US naturalized citizen. She also lived in Birmingham, Alabama, Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee, before settling in Jonesboro.
In addition to being an avid golfer, she also loved bridge and was a member of the Jonesboro Contract Bridge Club. As a golfer she was the Super, Super, Senior Golf Champion for the State of Arkansas. Erika was a member of the Jonesboro Country Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Cohen, and sisters Margaret Liebl and Inge Grylewicz.
Survivors include daughter Ilsa Hallan (Dr. Jerry) of Jacksonville, Florida, and sons Stephen Cohen (Betty) of Conway; and Dr. Jeffrey Cohen (Gayle) of Jonesboro. Grandchildren include Bobby Cohen of Conway, Anne Bennett of Centerton, Patrick Cohen of Beebe, Dr. Jeremy Cohen of Jonesboro, Jennifer Creason of Jacksonville, Florida and Kyle Creason of Burlington, Vermont. Great grandchildren are Olivia, Bowie, and Bruce Creason; Archer and Joey Bennett; and Lincoln, Graham, Eve, Jackson and Lane Cohen.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Kevin Gore officiating.
Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A time of fellowship and visitation will immediately follow the service.
Burial will be a private ceremony in Fredericktown, Missouri.
