The Poplar Bluff High School Class of 1956 held its 65th class reunion Sept. 17-18.
Several class members and spouses met Friday evening at Las Margaritas to begin their weekend of celebration. Then, on Saturday evening, more class members and spouses all gathered at the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce building for a time of visiting and recalling remembrances of the high school years.
Bob Harris, who lives in Rolla, has for several reunions brought one of his own creations – a beautiful rocking horse. This year, it was a special one that was engraved as No. 65 of 100 which he has made. It was a beautiful, special rocking horse, according to those who attended.
These rocking horses have been either chosen by drawing a name of a classmate attending, or as this time, tickets were sold. The winning ticket was Edna Rose Eddings Sinks.
Harris donates his sale of the horses to the class to be used for the next year’s reunion.
For several years now, Paul Roberts, class president, has also called the class, to what has been named our “yearly get togethers,” and class members who are able come back to Poplar Bluff for a day of visiting, eating a meal together and reminiscing, which has helped to keep members such a closely-knit class, they said.
As the members are now entering the “elderly” 80’s, but are all looking forward to the next time they can get together, according to the group.
