Meagan Henson and Chad Winkleman are organizing a clean up day at Beaver Lake Campground outside of Poplar Bluff.

Henson said that one of the culvert pipes broke and now there is trash in the lake.

“My children cut their feet on the glass that is now in the lake,” Henson said.

The Missouri Forest Service will provide the trash removal. Trash bags and plastic gloves will be provided, but anyone participating should feel free to bring their own as well. Snacks for volunteers will be provided.

Henson and Winkleman said they are local citizens who enjoy being outdoors and hate to see nature destroyed in this way.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

They would like as many volunteers as possible. If you are planning on coming, contact Winkleman at 573-399-2073. Volunteers may pre-resister, but pre-registration is not mandatory.

“So many people do not even know about Beaver Lake. It is a very beautiful place,” Henson said.

To reach the area from Poplar Bluff, take Highway PP west to Highway TT. Take Highway TT about four miles. Once you cross the Tenmile Creek bridge, veer to the right at the fork, then turn right on County Road 436 and go about three miles to the recreation area on the left.
