BLOOMFIELD — “It’s going to be a busy fall and winter here at the Museum,” observes Laura Dumey, administrator at the National Stars and Stripes Museum and Library located in Bloomfield. “Many exciting events are planned for the coming weeks and months, but the 9/11 exhibit opening this weekend, is an especially moving collection.”

Dumey continues, “The display will be a pictorial history of the United States presence in Afghanistan during the past 20 years. It will contain newspaper headlines, photos and possibly even some first-person accounts from Stars and Stripes staffers who recently were forced to evacuate that country.”

“Our partnership with Stars and Stripes newspaper gives us access to their logo, newspapers and photos,” Dumey adds, “which is the source of our exhibit.”

The 9/11 exposition will open to the public on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Light refreshments will be served, and museum staff will be available to answer questions and discuss the exhibit. The 9/11 tribute will be housed in the former Desert Storm display area. That collection is resting after several years on display.

In compliance with COVID guidelines, the Stars and Stripes Museum and Library encourages the use of masks during indoor public events; however, masking is not mandatory.
