A Poplar Bluff man sits in the Butler County jail after he allegedly violated an order of protection and broke into a woman’s apartment Friday.
Octavin L. Brown, 27, of the 1000 block of Cole Avenue is charged with the Class B felony of first-degree burglary, the unclassified felony of armed criminal action, the Class D felonies of second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm, plus the Class E felonies of first-degree stalking, third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to the probable cause statement by Poplar Bluff Police Capt. David Sutton, a woman in the 600 block of Kinzer Street Brown had an order of protection issued July 15 against Brown, which Brown allegedly violated by sending her threatening text messages, then coming to her apartment Friday morning.
The woman reportedly opened the door to Brown because she thought he was going to break it in. When she opened the door, Brown allegedly pushed the woman, pushed his way into the residence and assaulted another woman at the residence, striking that woman with a pistol. When the second woman fled the apartment, Brown chased the first woman and assaulted her, according to police reports. She allegedly had a large scratch on the inside of her upper left arm from the assault.
After Brown was mirandized, he allegedly admitted he entered the apartment without the first woman’s permission and assaulted the second woman with a pistol. He then reportedly led Sutton to where he left the pistol.
Brown previously was convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance in October 2015 and of felony delivery of 35 or grams or less of marijuana in November 2019.
Brown is being held without bond at the Butler County jail. His initial court appearance was slated for Monday morning.
