Alex Jerry Clinton, 64, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. He was born in Chesterfield, MO on June 16, 1957 to the late Willie Carter, Sr. and Daisy Mae (Brady) Jones. He was a man of strength and a natural leader. Alex Jerry Clinton, 64, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2021. He was born in Chesterfield, MO on June 16, 1957 to the late Willie Carter, Sr. and Daisy Mae (Brady) Jones.

He was a man of strength and a natural leader. In 1979, while attending Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, he was a founding father of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and played as a left tackle for the football team. After college, he went on to play professional football in the Canadian League for the British Columbia Lions. He would also proudly serve his nation in the Army. Early in life, he married Gail Clinton with which he had several children. He worked as a Captain at Southeast Correctional Center of Charleston, MO. Alex was also a Mason, avid fisherman, YouTube engineer/tinkerer, but most of all loved his family. His current wife, Christy (Sifford) Clinton was blessed with over 23 years by his side. He proved his love and devotion for his family when he paid the ultimate price to save them during a house fire.

Alex is survived by wife Christy; previous wife, Gail Clinton; two sons, Elliott Clinton of Poplar Bluff and Alex Sheldon Clinton of Plato, Missouri; three daughters, Alexsa White (Terry), Alex Jocelyn Paige Clinton and Alex Jude Clinton all of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Tyrone Clinton (Patty) of San Diego, California, Dennis Brady (Ramona) of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Delores Coleman of Lansing, Illinois, Shirley Tyler of Gulfport, Mississippi and Annette Walker (Johnny) of Atlanta, Georgia, three grandchildren, Alex Gaylon Maliek Clinton, Aaryn Aleke Paige Johnson and Loriana Jayda Danae Clinton as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Willie Carter, Jr and one sister, Peggy Clinton.

Services are scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, at the Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church with Rev. Eric Ware as the speaker. Visitation is from 10 a.m.-noon. Burial will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery of Hayti, Missouri. Social distancing and masks are recommended.
