Two area residents sustained serious injuries in a pair of accidents over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the first accident occurred at 7:40 a.m. Friday east of Puxico on Highway PP, while the second accident occurred at 3:35 p.m. Sunday on Highway 67 just north of Poplar Bluff.

Lisa D. Pennington, 51, of Dexter was operating a 2005 Chrysler PT cruiser southbound on Highway PP Friday morning when it pulled into the path of an eastbound 1987 Ford dump truck, the MSHP reports. The dump truck was operated by Justun G. Buchanan, 39, of Wappapello.

Pennington was transported by Air Evac to St. Louis University Hospital.

Two days later, Hannah M. Tutor, 19, of Poplar Bluff was operating a 2011 Nissan Altima eastbound on Highway 67 when it failed to yield to a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, troopers report. It was operated by William B. Ruminer, 41, of Puxico.

A passenger in Ruminer’s vehicle, Bethany J. Mattison, 41, of Waynesville, Missouri, sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
