Fern Conover Saulsbery, 91, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed to her heavenly home on July 10, 2021, exactly six months to the day her beloved husband, Buck, left this earth. They were together for 73 years and are now together again forever. Fern was born on February 24, 1930 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Coburn and Essie Conover. Fern worked many years in a shoe factory and a plastic factory and then would go home to take care of a huge garden and canned her own food to help take care of her family. Later in life she traveled with Buck, who left a government job and became a truck driver. Fern was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Central City, Arkansas. She loved her Lord and her life was a beautiful testimony of her faith and devotion to God and her family. She prayed daily for her family and friends and would call each one out by name as she earnestly prayed for their individual needs. She loved to laugh and her laugh was contagious to all around her. Her beautiful smile, loving heart and sweet spirit will be missed by so many. Fern was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, Meme, Great Meme and friend to her family and friends that loved her so much.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Peggy Swink and husband, Jack of Fort Smith; grandchildren, David Swink, Charla Calicott and husband, John, Jonathan Swink and wife, Nickey, Charitta Palmer and husband, Aaron; great-grandchildren, Josiah Saulsbery, Quaide Swink, Rebekah Chronister, Rachel Calicott, Kaiya Swink, Koda Swink, Ben Calicott and Creek Swink; brothers, Eddie Conover and wife, Bonita and Calvin Conover. She also leaves behind a slew of nephews and nieces that she loved so very much.
Fern is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Saulsbery Sr.; her son, Charles Saulsbery II; her parents and her brother, Nathanial Conover.
Fern’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 24 with a small group of family and friends.
