KENNETT, Mo. — Poplar Bluff swimmers won the small-team title and finished third overall Saturday at the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference championship meet.

The Piranhas finished 203 points in front of the Ste. Genevieve Stingrays for the small-team title. Poplar Bluff’s 1,253 points followed Kennett, which won with 6,390.5 points and River City at 3,679 in the eight-team event to end the season.

Dakota Collins had a pair of runner-up finishes for Poplar Bluff while Owen McDaniel and Cyrus Sagharichi each finished second in an event. The Piranhas also featured five relays that each finished third.

McDaniel and Collins each finished 0.7 of a second from winning a race. Collins finished the 9-10 division 50-yard freestyle in 39.18 seconds while McDaniel was second to the wall in the 13-14 division 200-individual medley in 3 minutes, 12.06 seconds.

Sagharichi was second in the 13-14 100-backstroke at 1:34.99 and also placed fourth in two other events, the 50-freestyle and 100-freestyle. McDaniel also placed fourth in the 100-breaststroke and sixth in the 100-freestyle.

Along with her runner-up finish in the 50-freestyle, Collins placed second in the 50-backstroke at 48.80 and was fourth in the 100-freestyle. She also helped a pair of relays place third.

Collins, Gracie Muse, Pauline Lagura and Sophia Mulholland were third in both the 100-medley relay and 100-freestyle relay.

Poplar Bluff’s 13-14 200-medley relay of Gracie Brown, Cameron Huck, Keira Willis and Maclaren Moore were third while Brown, Willis, Moore and Kinlsey Gibbs were third in the 200-freestyle relay.

Ryalee Barnett, Kynlee Dunlap, Kyra Rommel and Willa Cisne placed third in the 8-under 100-freestyle relay, cutting 20.5 seconds from their first meet this season.

Cisne finished fourth in a pair of events, the 25- and 50-freestyle, while Dunlap was fourth in the 25-backstroke and ninth in the 50-freestyle. Presley Wilson finished sixth in the 25-backstroke whle Barnett was sixth in the 50-freestyle, seventh in the 25-freestyle and eighth in the 25-backstroke. Rommel was 10th in the 50-freestyle while Presley Wilson was 27th in the 25-freestyle.

Matt Pestillos finished fifth in the 8-under 25-freestyle and sixth in the backstroke. Sparkman finished seventh in the 25-freestyle and eighth in the 50 while Noah Vick cut time in the 25-freestyle and finished 17th in the backstroke.

At 9-10, Muse finished fifth in the 50-backstroke, seventh in the 100-IM and ninth in the 50-freestyle. Mulholland placed ninth in the 100-freestyle, 12th in the 50-breaststroke and 50-freestyle while Lagura was 13th in the 50-backstroke.

Forrest Huck placed fourth in the 9-10 boys 100-IM and sixth in the backstroke while Zach Pestillos was fifth in the breaststroke, eighth in the backstroke and 17th in the 50-freestyle.

Huck, Reagan Sparkman, Matt Pestillos and Zach Pestillos finished fifth in the 100-medley relay.

Cameron Huck placed fourth in the 11-12 50-breaststroke and sixth in the 50-freestyle. Maclaren Moore was fourth in the 100-IM and fifth in the 50-butterfly while Gibbs finished fifth in the 100-freestyle, sixth in the butterfly and eighth in the backstroke. Jessica Vick finished 14th in the backstroke and 25th in the 50-freestyle.

Keira Willis placed fourth in the 13-14 100-butterfly, sixth in the 100-backstroke and seventh in the 100-freestyle. Gracie Brown was ninth in the 100-breaststroke, 11th in the backstroke and 15th in the 100-freestyle.

In the 13-14 boys events, Connor Sisco was seventh in the 100-breaststroke and 12th in the 100-freestyle while Axel Tamez was seventh in the 50-freestyle and 11th in the 100. Mauricio Tamez placed eighth in the 50-freestyle and 10th in the 100 while Tristan Morgan was 10th in the 50-freestyle and 13th in the 100.

Darius Sagharichi placed eighth in the 15-18 100-freestyle while Grace Cram was ninth in the 100-backstroke and 13th in the 50-freestyle.

A handful of Poplar Bluff swimmers will travel to Houston next week for the AAU Junior Olympics.
