A Memphis, Tennessee, man died Monday after he drowned while trying to cross the Current River in Carter County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Edgar O. Racanec Sacach, 38, attempted to cross the river while swimming around 4 p.m. at the Shote Hole when he went under the water and did not resurface.
He was found a short time later in a shallow area downstream and was transported by Carter County Ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:14 p.m.
The drowning is the first in Troop G in 2021.
