Robert Lee Reed III, 78, a resident of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Cedarhurst of Blue Springs. He was born August 29, 1942 to Robert L. II and Maridel (Howard) Reed in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Robert attended the University of Missouri, Southwest Missouri State and Arkansas State College where he received his bachelor’s degree. He received his master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri preparing him for a decades-long government career with Health and Human Services.
Robert married his high school sweetheart Kathleen ‘Kathie’ Morrison on August 29, 1965 in Poplar Bluff. Soon after, two children were born, Rob and Jan. Robert and Kathie enjoyed playing tennis often, enabling them to form many lifelong friendships. He got great joy from making people laugh and was often the life of any gathering. Robert was an avid outdoorsman and spent many seasons hunting and fishing. Robert also enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Robert lost his beloved Kathie 20 months prior to his death, after 54 years of marriage.
Beautiful memories of a life well lived will be cherished by his friends and family. Survivors include his children, Rob Reed and wife, Claudia of Fenton, Missouri, Jan Mead and husband, Mytchell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Donna Reed of Columbia, Missouri; five grandchildren, Blake, Adam, Joshua, Rhea and Kasidy.
The family will receive friends and family from 1-3 p.m. Monday, July 12 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations to Powell Gardens, Kansas City’s Botanical Gardens are appreciated.
