From Staff Reports
Poplar Bluff firefighters from three stations responded shortly after 10 a.m. Friday to 304 Victor St., where a fire had started behind a shed at the rear of the property, said Chief Ralph Stucker.
The fire extended from the shed to the vacant house before damaging the vinyl siding on the house beside it, Stucker said. The main structure is full of debris.
The fire was within a block of Quality Tech Transmission, a South Broadway business which suffered its own fire in March that destroyed a portion of the existing building. The company owners are planning to rebuild, but are continuing to work from the undamaged portion of the facility.
A cause for Friday’s fire on Victor Street was not available as of press time.
The Victor Street fire was the second one for the chief Friday. Stucker said he spotted black smoke on the east side of town on his way into work. He located the fire in Ray Clinton Park at what appeared to be a campsite. Stucker used a shovel already there to put out the burning plastic containers as other firefighters brought water to make certain the scene was safe.
Firefighters are on the scene of a vacant house fire on Victor Street, a short distance behind Quality Tech Transmission. Early reports indicate the fire started in a shed and spread to the home.
